This summer, both my mom and Andy's mom participated in the 2008 Tennessee Senior Olympic Games. This is my mom's 9th year to compete. She is becoming an old pro at it now. She competed in discus (silver medal), volleyball, and basketball (gold medal) Her team has won the gold medal in basketball at the state level every year except 1 year I believe. Her team will compete in the National Senior Games in basketball next summer and defend their National gold medal that they won 1 year ago. Andy's mom has gotten into cycling the last couple of years to get in shape. She had gotten pretty good and decided to try out the Senior Games this summer. She almost wasn't able to compete after being in a bad bicycle accident in late April. But a few weeks before the games, she was able to start cycling again (a brave feat after being run off the road by a car) and started building her strength back up. She was able to register the last day and decided that participating, even though she wasn't back to top condition, would still be fun. Well, not only did she participate, but she truly competed and won the bronze medal in both the 5k and 20k cycling events. It was a great accomplishment! Billy was there to watch both grandmothers in action too!
